Reading: Online Tutoring
June 22, 2008 – 12:31 pmMany parents and students are turning to online tutoring to get the help needed with various school subjects. One of the best ways to find the appropriate online tutoring for your child is to take a few minutes and call the school he or she attends or contact his or her teacher by email for recommended tutoring sites. Some tutoring websites focus on the dissemination of information, some focus on educational games, some on personal contact with students, or a mixture of these things and more.
How Online Tutoring Works
Some tutoring sites have people online who can answer questions and help students with homework. The people on these sites make use of instant messaging or chat room type of communications to help students in real time. Some of these sites offer free tutoring and other sites will require some type of fee.
Some online tutoring consists of programs created to help students walk through various areas of subjects. These sites require the student to go through an online tutorial, reading, answering questions, and learning on his or her own. Computer based tutorial programs require the student to do much of the work himself or herself without the help of an individual.
The most important aspect of making any kind of tutoring work is the time spent with the tutor. Look for websites where people are readily available to answer any questions the student may have. While many tutoring programs can be very helpful, they may not answer all of the questions that come up during a tutoring session. No matter how good computer based tutoring gets, the human touch is still needed in some situations.
